Nubcat is a Solana cat meme coin from the March 2024 cat meta, tied in community lore to the cat of trader Ansem, which earned a Bitget listing within days of launch and peaked near an implied 100 million dollars in April 2024.

Nubcat is a cat themed meme coin on Solana launched in March 2024, at the height of the cat meta that produced popcat runs, cat in a dogs world and a season of influencer pet speculation. Its rise was inseparable from the cult of personality around Ansem, the trader whose calls on dogwifhat had made him the most followed figure in the trenches that spring.

Origin

NUB launched as a fair distribution token with a supply just under one billion, built around images of a round faced cat. Community accounts of the period tie the token to the cat belonging to Ansem, whose posts about his pet fueled weeks of speculation over the animal's name; the association was folkloric rather than official, and Ansem endorsed no token. That folklore sits alongside a separate, much older origin for the character itself: the blue cat design known as "Nub" was created by Dutch illustrator Leon Karssen around 2012, twelve years before any coin existed, and built an Instagram following of more than 280,000 (@sillynubcat) purely as an internet art character. Bitget's own exchange explainer for the token credits Karssen by name as the source of the mascot, treating the character's illustrated origin and the Ansem linked meme narrative as two separate threads that converged on the same coin. The coin moved with unusual speed through the legitimacy ladder: Bitget announced a listing on March 29, 2024, within about a week of the token's first trading, with the exchange's release candidly noting that NUB held no intrinsic value and carried no expectation of financial return.

Market history

The token's peak coincided with the climax of the Ansem pet narrative. In late April 2024 the trader's cat was revealed to be named Hobbes, and a separate coin trading on that name reached a market capitalization near 100 million dollars within a day, covered by Benzinga as the Ansem's Cat phenomenon. NUB topped out in the same window: CoinLore records the all time high at about 0.101 dollars on April 24, 2024, an implied market value around 100 million dollars against the roughly 950 million circulating supply. CoinGecko's separate price chart marks an earlier per token high of $0.182 on March 31, 2024, two days after the Bitget listing and about three weeks before the April 24 market cap peak; the gap likely reflects thin liquidity in the first days of trading rather than a second, higher valuation peak, but it is a distinct data point from a different tracker. CoinGecko also records NUB's all time low at $0.001259 on April 30, 2026. The influencer pet meta cooled within weeks, and NUB declined through the pump.fun summer alongside the rest of the spring cohort. By 2026 it traded around 2 million dollars in market capitalization, an unusually large survivor for its class; CoinGecko put the figure at about $2.2 million as of August 2026.

Cultural impact

Nubcat marks the moment the trenches began pricing proximity to influencers rather than memes themselves: the asset was, functionally, a bet on one trader's cat. The NUB and Hobbes episode, two nine figure valuations conjured from a pet's name reveal, became the standard reference for the influencer pet meta, cited whenever later communities tried to summon value from a celebrity's animal. It also illustrated the era's compressed exchange timelines, with a centralized listing arriving days after launch, something unthinkable in prior cycles.

The comparison video culture that grew up around influencer pet coins has at least one confirmed example of the trading it invited: clipper rasmr admitted to running side wallets around his own "Michi versus Nubcat" comparison content years earlier, buying into Michi before posting the video and selling for a small profit once it moved the chart, a story he recounted at length in a widely viewed July 2026 clip.

By August 2026 the community remained visibly active, with traders noting the coin was "getting shilled to us everyday on pumpfun app," and a dedicated fan account, @NubCatFan, was still posting under the description "number 1 cat on the internet/solana." A separate "$nub" token also began circulating outside Solana by mid 2026, with some holders describing bridging funds onto the Robinhood Chain specifically to buy it; whether this represents an official expansion of the Nubcat brand or an unrelated copycat using the same name has not been confirmed, and it remains an open thread in the community rather than a settled fact.
