RugCheck is a free Solana token safety scanner launched in 2023 that produces instant risk reports and became the informal minimum standard of memecoin due diligence.
Function
RugCheck, at rugcheck.xyz, is a token safety scanner for Solana and the Fogo chain. A user pastes a token contract address and receives a risk report within moments, with no registration, wallet connection, or fee. The engine reads raw on chain state, including token program accounts, liquidity pool records, holder distribution, and transaction history, and runs more than twenty rule based checks across five categories: authority controls, liquidity, holder concentration, creator holdings, and sniper or bundler detection. Core signals include whether mint authority is revoked (can the creator print more supply), whether freeze authority exists (can holders be blocked from selling), top holder concentration, and whether liquidity is locked or burnable. Tokens are classified Good, Warning, or Danger with a numeric score, and a public REST API powers integrations. The project's operators have not disclosed their identities.
Use in the trenches
"Did you rugcheck it" is a literal question in the trenches. The green or red verdict is the fastest available filter on a fresh pump.fun launch before deeper work on Solscan or Bubblemaps, and terminals including Photon and BullX embedded RugCheck risk data directly in their token pages so traders never left the trading screen. Its bundler detection addresses bundling, and its Insider Networks feature applies graph analysis to find coordinated wallet clusters. Passing RugCheck does not make a token safe, a caveat repeated constantly after clean scoring tokens still executed a rug pull through off chain means, but failing it is treated as disqualifying.
History
RugCheck was established in May 2023 during a period of rapid Solana token creation, according to Solana Compass. It grew alongside pump.fun as scam volume made automated screening necessary, added wallet risk profiling and its API, and in 2025 expanded to Fogo, an SVM based chain that adopted RugCheck as its default token scanner.
Status in 2026
RugCheck remains free and operational in 2026, processing thousands of scans daily and functioning as the de facto due diligence baseline in Solana trading communities.
