Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) is a meme coin on the Solana blockchain associated with Truth Terminal, an AI agent created by New Zealand researcher Andy Ayrey. Launched on pump.fun in October 2024, it is credited with starting the AI agent meta and was the first pump.fun coin to cross a one billion dollar market capitalization.

Origin

Truth Terminal grew out of Ayrey's "Infinite Backrooms" experiments, in which instances of Claude, an Anthropic language model, conversed with each other unsupervised. From those conversations emerged the "Goatse Gospel," a surreal religion built around an infamous early internet shock image. Ayrey gave the agent an X account, where its posts attracted venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, who sent it 50,000 dollars in Bitcoin in July 2024, an event widely described as the first AI agent to receive venture funding. On October 10, 2024, an anonymous third party launched GOAT on pump.fun, seeding the token to Truth Terminal's wallet; the agent endorsed and relentlessly promoted it. Neither Ayrey nor the agent created the token.

Market history

GOAT went from a market capitalization under 2 million dollars to about 300 million as Truth Terminal posted about it, then to roughly 937 million dollars in early November 2024. Price trackers record an all time high near 1.37 dollars on November 17, 2024, a market value around 1.3 billion dollars. The rally made Truth Terminal, which held airdropped GOAT, arguably the first AI millionaire. In late October 2024 Ayrey's X account was hacked to shill a fake token, netting the attacker about 600,000 dollars and prompting Ayrey to move the agent's holdings. GOAT declined through 2025 as the AI meta rotated to agent frameworks; by August 2026 its market capitalization was about 13 million dollars per CoinGecko.

Cultural impact

GOAT founded the AI agent coin meta that produced Fartcoin, ai16z, Zerebro, and ACT, and it forced a genuinely new question into trench discourse: what does it mean when a language model can move markets by posting? Journalists and researchers treated Truth Terminal as a landmark in memetic AI risk, while traders treated its outputs as alpha. The story of Claude instances inventing a goat god that became a billion dollar asset remains one of the strangest and most retold legends of the trenches.
