Zerebro is a Solana AI agent token tied to an autonomous AI musician created by Jeffy Yu, whose staged death stunt in May 2025 became one of the era's strangest scandals.

Zerebro (ZEREBRO) is an AI agent token on the Solana blockchain launched in October 2024 through pump.fun. The project, created by developer Jeffy Yu and a cofounder known as Tint, centered on an autonomous AI agent that produced music, art, and social media posts. It rose with the AI agent meta founded by Goatseus Maximus and collapsed into scandal when Yu faked his own death.

Origin

Zerebro launched during the post GOAT wave of agent projects, differentiating itself through creative output: the agent released AI generated singles, EPs, and albums, ran a record label, and maintained a large following on X. Yu, then in his early twenties, became a visible founder on crypto podcasts, and the project shipped ZerePy, an open source agent framework, situating Zerebro alongside ai16z in the agent infrastructure race.

Market history

ZEREBRO reached an all time high around 0.79 dollars on January 2, 2025, a market capitalization of roughly 800 million dollars, making it one of the largest pump.fun originated tokens of the cycle. It fell hard as the AI agent bubble deflated through the first half of 2025.

The faked death

On May 4, 2025, Yu appeared to die by suicide during a livestream, shortly after a token called LLJEFFY, framed as his "legacoin," was deployed from wallets tied to him; the token briefly reached a market capitalization around 105 million dollars. Onchain sleuths and journalists quickly questioned the death, the local coroner had no record of it, and the San Francisco Standard found Yu alive at his family's home days later. Yu subsequently published an AI written manifesto and promoted a new coin. Reporting characterized the stunt as a scheme to pump LLJEFFY, which fell more than 96 percent from its peak; these characterizations remain allegations in journalism rather than legal findings. The episode destroyed remaining confidence in the project.

Cultural impact

Zerebro's arc bracketed the AI agent era: at its peak it embodied the dream of autonomous AI creators with token native business models, and in its collapse it delivered the meta's defining morality tale. "Faking your death for a memecoin" instantly entered trench vocabulary as the outer limit of founder misconduct, and the LLJEFFY saga is cited alongside LIBRA and HAWK among the scandals that ended the 2024 to 2025 speculative wave in the trenches.
