Smoking Chicken Fish is a Solana meme coin built around a surreal old internet photo of a cigarette smoking trout stuffed in a chicken, whose community organized as a self styled church, registered as a nonprofit and planned a real church building in Marfa, Texas.
Smoking Chicken Fish is a meme coin on Solana launched through pump.fun in 2024, based on a bizarre photograph of a trout with a cigarette in its mouth wedged inside a raw chicken, an image circulating online since a 2012 Reddit post. The project styled itself the Church of the Smoking Chicken Fish and became one of the stranger community phenomena of the pump.fun era.
Origin
The coin was created around the absurdist image with no pretense of utility, and its identity formed around a pseudonymous founder known as Pastor Kelby, who began hosting daily sermons in X Spaces, reading from self help and philosophy books to hundreds of listeners and issuing playful commandments the community called chickenmandments. Exchange research pages date the launch to mid 2024, and the token completed pump.fun's bonding curve graduation onto DEX trading with a fixed supply near one billion.
Market history
CoinMarketCap reported that SCF reached a market capitalization of about 130 million dollars less than two weeks after its pump.fun run took off, and CoinGecko records the all time high at about 0.145 dollars on October 14, 2024, an implied market value near 145 million dollars, placing its peak in the same autumn window as goatseus maximus and the other icons of pump.fun's golden quarter. It then retraced to around 37 million dollars amid the broader downturn and kept declining. During the run the project registered as a nonprofit organization with plans, announced by Pastor Kelby, to build a physical church in Marfa, Texas, claiming over 130,000 dollars in whale donations toward a property. CoinGecko later described SCF as a church registered with the IRS using the token to facilitate donations. By 2026 the token traded around 370,000 dollars in market capitalization, and aggregator price feeds had become intermittent.
Cultural impact
SCF is the clearest example of the religion meta, the fall 2024 tendency of pump.fun communities to organize as congregations rather than armies. Where most meme coins promised wealth, SCF offered liturgy, and its daily Spaces sermons were genuinely attended long after the chart rolled over. In the trenches it is remembered fondly as proof that the pump.fun era produced culture as well as exit liquidity, and the phrase smoking chicken fish still surfaces whenever traders argue about whether any meme community ever converted attention into something lasting in the physical world.
