Jupiter is Solana's dominant DEX aggregator and DeFi superapp, founded by the pseudonymous developer Meow, known for the JUP token and its annual Jupuary airdrops.
Function
Jupiter is a decentralized exchange aggregator on Solana that routes swaps across the network's liquidity venues, including Raydium, Meteora, Orca, and launchpad pools, to find the best execution price. Around that core it has built a superapp: perpetual futures, limit orders, recurring buys, a mobile app, the Jupiter Studio launchpad, and the Jupiter Lend borrowing and lending product that opened in 2025 with more than a million waitlisted wallets. Most Solana trading bots and terminals settle their swaps through Jupiter routing, making it invisible infrastructure for much of the trenches.
Use in the trenches
Every memecoin trader touches Jupiter whether they know it or not, since bots like Trojan and terminals like Axiom route through it. Directly, traders use jup.ag for swaps on tokens after graduation, limit orders on illiquid tickers, and perps hedging. The annual Jupuary airdrops made holding and using Jupiter products a meta of their own.
History
Jupiter launched in 2021, founded by the pseudonymous developer Meow. On January 31, 2024 it distributed one billion JUP to about a million wallets, among the largest airdrops in crypto history. Jupuary 2025 distributed 700 million JUP, roughly 600 million dollars at the time, to two million wallets. In January 2025 Jupiter acquired a majority stake in Moonshot, the memecoin buying app that topped the US App Store during the TRUMP token launch, and acquired portfolio tracker SonarWatch. In June 2025 the Jupiter DAO suspended governance votes until 2026, with executive Kash Dhanda citing a breakdown in trust and a perpetual FUD cycle. A DefiLlama snapshot from October 2025 ranked Jupiter first on Solana by revenue. Jupuary 2026, approved by DAO vote, was the third and final annual airdrop; its claim window has closed, with unclaimed tokens returning to the treasury.
Status in 2026
In 2026 Jupiter remains the largest DeFi application on Solana, with governance returning in a redesigned form and its product suite spanning swaps, perps, lending, and launches.
