The gork account gained a following in early 2025 by replying to posts as a sort of brain damaged Grok, and Musk interacted with it repeatedly. A token followed on pump.fun through a bonding curve launch in early May 2025, with Gate's explainer recording trading volume above 100 million dollars and a market capitalization around 60 million dollars within hours of going live. The decisive catalyst came on May 3, 2025, when Musk changed his X display name to "Gorklon Rust" and set a gork themed avatar. KuCoin reported a 520 percent surge on the Musk attention, and Bybit's coverage recorded the coin going from near zero to a market capitalization above 70 million dollars within roughly 48 hours, with daily volume above 200 million dollars. Musk never acknowledged the token itself, and the coin had no connection to xAI; the entire trade was proximity to his username.
