ELIZA is a Solana token named for the ai16z Eliza agent framework, remembered for the November 2024 naming dispute in which an ai16z endorsed launch collapsed a community token of the same name within minutes.

ELIZA is an AI agent token on the Solana blockchain named after Eliza, the open source agent framework built by the ai16z project. It is distinct from the AI16Z token itself, and its launch produced one of the defining controversies of the AI agent meta: a public naming dispute between two coins claiming the same identity.

The naming dispute

In mid November 2024 ai16z founder Shaw Walters suggested publicly that the project would not tokenize its Eliza framework, but that community developers were welcome to try. On November 16, 2024 an anonymous team launched a lowercase eliza token through the vvaifu.fun platform, and it climbed to a market capitalization near 50 million dollars as traders treated it as the framework's de facto coin.

On November 19, Walters denied any association with that token and threw his support behind a new uppercase ELIZA launched the same day on pump.fun by a team he said ai16z had worked with for two weeks, while stressing it was not an official ai16z product. The old token crashed from about 40 million dollars to 6 million within roughly 30 minutes, while the new ELIZA ran from nothing to a peak near 100 million dollars. Holders of the original accused ai16z of orchestrating a rug pull, and Walters offered 10 percent of the new supply as compensation to holders of the old coin. Later community writeups alleged insider buying ahead of the endorsement; those claims were never substantiated and remain allegations.

Market history

ELIZA reached an all time high of about 0.17 dollars on December 31, 2024, an implied valuation of roughly 165 million dollars, as the entire agent complex ran into January 2025. It then bled out with the sector through 2025.

Status

The episode presaged the ecosystem's later troubles. ai16z rebranded its token to elizaOS in 2025, faced a class action over its marketing, and in August 2026 Walters declared the AI16Z token "dead" following a settlement. ELIZA itself was effectively abandoned, trading with a market capitalization near 120 thousand dollars by mid 2026, and survives mainly as the cautionary tale in the trenches about founder endorsement risk.
