The **YZY coin launch** was the August 21, 2025 release of YZY, a [[solana]] token launched by rapper Kanye West (Ye) under his Yeezy brand. The token reached a market capitalization of roughly 3 billion dollars about 40 minutes after West posted the contract address to his X account, then crashed more than 70 percent within a day, making it the largest celebrity coin implosion since the [[hawk tuah coin]] and, by peak valuation, the biggest launch of the [[celebrity coin wave]] besides [[official trump]]. ## Launch and crash West had circled crypto for months; in February 2025 he publicly said he had rejected a multimillion dollar offer to promote a fake coin to his fans, a history noted by Brave New Coin when he began teasing a real token. The launch itself, branded alongside a "Yeezy Money" payments concept, sent the price up roughly 1,400 percent before reversing. DL News reported West tweeting "Yeezy Money is here" even as the token fell 70 percent. Within a day the market cap had collapsed by billions, and fake Kanye tokens that had front run the real launch crashed alongside it. ## Insider allegations Coinbase executive Conor Grogan warned on launch day that insiders controlled about 94 percent of YZY supply, with a single multisig holding 87 percent before distribution. Analytics firm Bubblemaps found that more than 50,000 wallets took losses while 11 wallets each cleared over 1 million dollars in profit, capturing about 30 percent of all gains, per The Block; Coinspeaker counted 13 wallets extracting some 24 million dollars. On August 25 Bubblemaps further alleged that Hayden Davis, the operator behind the [[libra scandal]], had coordinated a [[sniper]] operation on YZY through 14 connected wallets for about 12 million dollars in profit, an allegation Davis did not confirm. Days later West claimed his Instagram had been hacked after it promoted a purported second token, which he disavowed. ## Significance YZY compressed the entire celebrity coin playbook, concentrated supply, manufactured scarcity, and retail losses, into a single news cycle, and its arrival three years into the meta meant nobody could claim surprise. In the [[trenches]] it was widely read alongside the [[trump coin launch]] as evidence that the largest launches had become pure [[insider]] extraction, and it sharpened the [[top signal and bottom signal]] debate during the slide toward the [[2026 memecoin winter]]. ## References - https://www.theblock.co/post/368557/kanye-west-yzy-11-netted-millions - https://thecryptobasic.com/2025/08/22/kanye-wests-yzy-coin-crashes-75-after-launch-insiders-take-millions/ - https://news.bitcoin.com/kanye-wests-yzy-meme-coin-crashes-hours-after-3b-launch-amid-insider-manipulation-claims/ - https://www.dlnews.com/articles/people-culture/kanye-tweets-yeezy-money-here-yzy-token-crash-70-post-launch/ - https://cryptoslate.com/hayden-davis-allegedly-sniped-kanye-wests-yzy-token-to-make-12-million-in-profits/ - https://www.coinspeaker.com/13-wallets-bag-24m-yzy-token-crashes/ - https://cryptonews.com/news/kanye-ye-west-disavows-yzy-token-claims-instagram-was-hacked/ - https://bravenewcoin.com/insights/kanye-west-hints-at-crypto-meme-coin-launch-amidst-mixed-celebrity-track-record
