SPX6900 (SPX) is a meme coin parodying the S&P 500 stock index, its name adding 610 imaginary companies and a meme number to the original 6,900. It launched on Ethereum in August 2023 and has been bridged to [[Solana]] since December 2023, where much of its trading and community activity migrated during the Solana meme era, making it an honorary citizen of [[the trenches]]. ## Origin SPX6900 launched fairly in August 2023, with a portion of supply burned, the contract renounced, and liquidity locked for 69 years. Its pitch, "flip the stock market," framed the coin as an absurdist index fund for believers, and its aesthetic drew on sigma male and manifestation culture rather than animal mascots. The bridge to Solana in December 2023 put it in front of the chain's meme trading audience just as that market ignited. ## Market history SPX spent a year as a small cap before the trader Murad Mahmudov, whose "meme coin supercycle" talk at Token2049 in late 2024 made him the meta's chief ideologue, adopted SPX6900 as his flagship holding, disclosing a position that reporting later valued at tens of millions of dollars. The coin ran hard in late 2024, consolidated, and then, unusually for a 2023 vintage meme, printed its all time high in the following cycle: about 2.27 dollars in late July 2025, a market capitalization around 2.1 billion dollars. It declined afterward, with financial media tracking the drawdown of Murad's roughly 67 million dollar position, and remained one of the most watched meme charts into 2026. ## Cultural impact SPX6900 is the definitive "belief" coin: its community treated holding as a spiritual practice, complete with mantras, group identity, and hostility to selling, a culture Murad explicitly theorized as the future of meme value. It proved a meme coin could survive multiple cycles and top its old highs, the strongest available counterexample to the one cycle life expectancy assumed for the class. Debates over whether SPX represents community conviction or coordinated bag holding remain a permanent fixture of meme coin discourse. ## References - https://www.bitstamp.net/learn/cryptocurrency-guide/what-is-spx6900-spx/ - https://www.bitget.com/wiki/what-blockchain-is-spx6900-on - https://coinmarketcap.com/cmc-ai/spx6900/latest-updates/ - https://finance.yahoo.com/news/murad-67-million-bet-spx6900-065916516.html - https://www.theblock.co/post/362847/murad-memecoin-thesis-spx6900 - https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/spx6900
