Snek is a snake themed meme coin on the Cardano blockchain, launched in April 2023. It became the most valuable meme coin on Cardano and one of the largest Cardano native tokens of any kind, an unusual feat on a chain with little meme coin culture compared to Solana or Ethereum.

Origin

Snek launched in April 2023 with a fair launch model: no tokens were reserved for a development team or private venture capital, and the supply of about 76.7 billion was distributed to the community. The mascot is a simple cartoon snake, and the brand voice leaned on the deliberately chill register of the snek internet meme, positioning the coin as the laid back counterpart to hyperactive meme markets elsewhere. In February 2024 community leadership introduced refreshed branding for the token and its ecosystem.

Market history

The token pumped quickly after launch, reaching about 0.0014 dollars before correcting, and spent 2023 establishing itself as Cardano's top meme asset. U.Today noted it crossing a 150 million ADA capitalization as a milestone for the chain. The major run came with the late 2024 bull market: SNEK hit its all time high of about 0.009 dollars on December 5, 2024, with its market capitalization surpassing 500 million dollars, making it the biggest Cardano meme coin and by some measures the third largest Cardano based token overall. It later retraced with the sector, trading around a capitalization in the low tens of millions by 2026 while retaining major exchange listings including Kraken.

Cultural impact

Snek is the standing answer to the claim that Cardano has no meme culture, and its community wears the chain's underdog status as identity. Its longevity contrasts with the disposable launch meta of pump.fun and the trenches: rather than rotating, Cardano's meme liquidity consolidated into one durable token across multiple cycles. CCN and other outlets have treated SNEK's rank among all Cardano tokens as a barometer of how far meme assets can go inside a conservative ecosystem.
