retardio (RETARDIO) is a meme coin on the Solana blockchain launched in January 2024 by anonymous developers. More than most coins of its size, its importance is linguistic: "retardio" became a general purpose badge of honor and insult across the trenches, describing traders who embrace deliberately irrational conviction.

Origin

The token launched fairly on Solana DEXs with no ICO or venture backing, per exchange descriptions, and its creators have remained anonymous. The project grew into a small ecosystem: the Retardio Cousins, a collection of 4,444 deliberately ugly NFT profile pictures whose holders formed one of Solana's loudest subcultures, and later a casino product marketed to holders. The brand's entire aesthetic was self aware stupidity, positioning itself against both serious DeFi and polished meme marketing.

Market history

RETARDIO built slowly through 2024 as its NFT community amplified the token. It hit a then record market capitalization of 200.69 million dollars on October 14, 2024 (the meme number was celebrated as part of the milestone), and price trackers record its all time high around 0.22 to 0.24 dollars on November 7, 2024, a market value of roughly 230 million dollars against a circulating supply near 976 million. The token received centralized exchange listings including MEXC. It declined through 2025 with the broader meme complex, and trackers in 2026 place its market capitalization in the single digit to low tens of millions depending on venue.

Cultural impact

The word did the work. "Retardio" entered everyday trench vocabulary as the name for the archetypal Solana degen, and the Retardio Cousins pioneered the loud, self deprecating NFT to meme coin community pipeline that later projects imitated. The community's raid culture on X, its ironic anti intellectualism, and its insistence that being early matters more than being right made it one of the defining subcultures of the 2024 Solana meme era, with influence measured less by market capitalization than by how much of its language the wider market adopted.
