This article is about the event. For the token itself, see QUANT. The **quant kid incident** (also called the **Gen Z Quant rug pull**) was a November 2024 episode on pump.fun in which a minor, reported by multiple outlets to be a 13 year old boy, launched and dumped a series of meme coins live on camera, provoking one of the strangest retaliations in the trenches: a community "revenge pump" that took his abandoned token to a market capitalization near 85 million dollars. In line with the practice of most cited reporting, this article does not name the minor. ## The rug pulls On November 20, 2024 (November 19 in some United States reporting), the boy launched a token under the ticker QUANT while livestreaming on pump.fun. As the price rose sharply within minutes, he sold his entire holding on camera for roughly 30,000 dollars, celebrated with an obscenity about "twenty bandos," raised middle fingers to the camera and ended the stream. Reporting by crypto.news and Fortune (via Yahoo Finance) described how he then repeated the pattern: a second QUANT token dumped for about 12,000 dollars, a token called SORRY (styled "I'm Sorry") sold for about another 13,000 dollars, and a token named LUCY after his dog, sold for about 20,000 dollars, bringing his reported total to around 50,000 dollars or more depending on the accounting. ## The revenge pump Instead of abandoning the original QUANT, traders on crypto twitter organized to pump it as retaliation, with the explicit goal of making the boy watch the token he had sold for 30,000 dollars become worth millions. QUANT reached a market capitalization of about 85 million dollars; at the peak, the holding he had dumped would have been worth roughly 4 million dollars. The stunt was celebrated in the trenches as poetic justice, though commentators noted the pump itself simply created a new set of late buyers holding the bag. ## Escalation and fallout The affair turned darker as the boy mocked traders online. Members of the community doxxed his family, publishing personal details, and reporting described harassment and even rumors that the family's dog had been targeted for kidnapping, which were not substantiated. Coverage in mainstream outlets treated the episode as evidence of how unmoderated financial livestreaming involving minors had become; CCN placed it against pump.fun's own statistics, noting that only about 1.7 percent of tokens on the platform ever graduated at the time. The incident occurred days before a series of extreme broadcasts led pump.fun to suspend livestreaming entirely on November 25, 2024 (see pump fun livestream ban and streamer meta). ## Significance The incident became a permanent piece of trenches folklore, memorialized on Know Your Meme, cited in every subsequent debate about platform moderation, and invoked as shorthand for both the absurdity and the cruelty of the 2024 meme cycle: a child could extract five figures from strangers in an evening, and the crowd's response was to spend tens of millions of dollars making a point. ## References * crypto.news, Crypto traders doxx 13 year old boy who rugged pump.fun tokens: https://crypto.news/crypto-traders-doxx-13-year-old-boy-who-rugged-a-pump-fun-token/ * Fortune via Yahoo Finance, 13 year old that made a killing creating a crypto and dumping it gets revenge pumped: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/13-old-made-killing-creating-122346376.html * Know Your Meme, Gen Z Quant rug pull: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/gen-z-quant-rug-pull * CCN, Child streamer's 30K crypto rug pull highlights harsh reality of memecoin graduations: https://www.ccn.com/news/crypto/child-streamers-30k-crypto-rug-pull-stunt-harsh-memecoin-reality/ * The Blockchain, Teen QUANT developer's rug pull sparks meme coin chaos: https://www.the-blockchain.com/2024/11/21/teen-quant-developers-rug-pull-sparks-dog-kidnapping-and-meme-coin-chaos/ * Sportskeeda, Fans react as young streamer reportedly makes 30,000 dollars in alleged pump and dump: https://www.sportskeeda.com/us/streamers/news-this-kid-going-jail-aged-13-fans-react-young-streamer-reportedly-makes-30-000-following-alleged-pump-dump-crypto-scheme
