The **pump.fun X ban wave** was the coordinated suspension on June 16, 2025 of the X accounts of [[pump.fun]], its cofounder [[alon]], and a cluster of other meme coin trading services, including the trading terminals GMGN, BullX and Bloom Trading, the AI agent framework ElizaOS and its founder Shaw Walters. Arriving weeks before pump.fun's planned [[PUMP token ICO|billion dollar token sale]], the takedown briefly severed the loudest launchpad in [[the trenches]] from its primary marketing channel and set off a day of frenzied speculation across [[crypto twitter]].

## The suspensions

The accounts went dark within a short window on June 16, and remained suspended through that evening. X gave no public explanation, and The Block reported that neither X nor pump.fun responded to requests for comment. The list of casualties suggested a targeted action against Solana meme coin infrastructure rather than isolated enforcement: alongside pump.fun's main handle and Alon's personal account, the wave caught the most widely used sniping and trading terminals in the ecosystem. GMGN acknowledged the suspension on Telegram and said it was actively appealing. The pump.fun website itself continued operating normally throughout.

## Speculation

Because X stayed silent, theories filled the gap. The most widely repeated explanation, noted by Cryptobriefing and others, was a crackdown on unauthorized use of third party X APIs, which many trading terminals relied on for signal scraping and account tooling. Darker readings circulated too: The Block noted speculation about possible involvement of the Securities and Exchange Commission or legal exposure in pump.fun's operations, concerns amplified by the fact that Blockworks had days earlier reported the platform's plan to raise $1 billion in a token sale at a $4 billion valuation. None of these theories was ever confirmed, and no regulator claimed responsibility.

## Aftermath

The accounts were subsequently restored, and pump.fun proceeded to announce and execute its record token sale in July (see [[PUMP token ICO]]). The episode nonetheless left a mark on the ecosystem's collective risk model: an entire industry's distribution had been shown to depend on a single private platform's unexplained moderation decisions. It also became a reference point in later debates about pump.fun's relationship with X, since the platform had already lost its account once to hackers that February and would spend late 2025 positioning its livestreaming product as a rival social network (see [[pump fun livestreaming]]). Within trench folklore the day is remembered as the moment the casino got locked out of its own megaphone with a billion dollar raise on the calendar.
