PUMP is the native token of pump fun, launched through one of the largest initial coin offerings in cryptocurrency history on July 12, 2025. The sale, the platform's answer to more than a year of speculation in the trenches about a token and airdrop, valued pump.fun at $4 billion fully diluted. ## The ICO The public sale priced PUMP at $0.004 with a maximum supply of one trillion tokens. It ran simultaneously on six exchanges (Bybit, Kraken, KuCoin, Bitget, Gate and MEXC) and pump.fun's own onchain portal, and sold out in about 12 minutes. Reports placed the public raise between $500 million and $600 million depending on how the retail tranche was counted, with an additional private sale of roughly $720 million to institutions at the same price, for a combined raise of about $1.3 billion, ranked among the largest ICOs ever behind only the 2017 era offerings of TON and EOS. Buyers in the United States and United Kingdom were excluded. Tokenomics allocated 33 percent of supply to the sale, 24 percent to community and ecosystem initiatives, 20 percent to the team and 13 percent to existing investors. ## The airdrop question On July 9, 2025 pump.fun announced that an airdrop was "coming soon," a promise that became a running grievance as it went undelivered for over a year. Cofounder Alon Cohen later said the airdrop would not happen in the immediate future. The only airdrop actually distributed went to holders of PADRE in December 2025, as compensation after pump.fun's acquisition of the Padre trading terminal collapsed that token's price. ## Buybacks and the burn pump.fun began using platform revenue to buy back PUMP within days of the ICO, including an early single buyback of $8.5 million. By March 2026 cumulative buybacks had reached about $328 million. On April 29, 2026 the company burned roughly $370 million worth of accumulated PUMP, about 36 percent of circulating supply, and abandoned its policy of directing all revenue to buybacks, instead locking 50 percent of net revenue into an irreversible year long buyback and burn contract while keeping the other half for operations. ## Price history PUMP traded about 47 percent above its ICO price in pre market trading and reached an all time high near $0.0089 on September 14, 2025. It then entered a long decline through the launchpad wars, unlock fears and platform controversies, hitting lows around $0.00135 after the pump fun go backlash in early June 2026 and an all time low of roughly $0.00115 on June 25, 2026, more than 80 percent below the September peak. The token rallied about 90 percent off the lows in mid 2026, trading near $0.0028 to $0.0030 in August 2026 even as a 6.88 billion token unlock hit the market. ## Unlocks and the layoff controversy Team and investor vesting began in mid 2026, with an early unlock tranche worth about $86 million starting a three year schedule. The vesting dates became controversial when reports in July and August 2026 alleged that pump.fun had laid off more than 40 employees shortly before their PUMP grants vested, in some cases reportedly one day before, canceling unvested allocations worth over a million dollars to individual workers. The company did not publicly respond to the allegations. ## References 1. https://blockonomi.com/pump-fun-pump-price-ico-raises-500-million-in-12-minutes-at-0-004-per-token 2. https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2025/07/12/pumpfun-swiftly-raises-500m-in-public-sale-at-4b-fully-diluted-valuation 3. https://news.bitcoin.com/solanas-pump-fun-nets-500m-as-pump-token-ico-sells-out-in-12-minutes/ 4. https://levex.com/en/blog/pump-fun-ico-analysis-600m-raise 5. https://bravenewcoin.com/insights/us-and-uk-buyers-excluded-from-pump-funs-600m-token-sale 6. https://protos.com/its-been-365-days-since-pump-fun-promised-an-airdrop-was-coming-soon/ 7. https://www.dlnews.com/articles/defi/pump-fun-placates-padre-tokenholders-with-airdrop-promise/ 8. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/pump-fun-executes-8-5-164800002.html 9. https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/04/29/pump-fun-burns-36-of-pump-supply-in-usd370-million-wipe-locks-50-revenue-into-ongoing-buybacks 10. https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/pump-fun 11. https://cryptobriefing.com/pumpfun-go-bounty-suicide-backlash/ 12. https://crypto.news/pump-price-rises-27-percent-despite-6-88b-token-unlock/ 13. https://coinedition.com/pump-price-prediction-august-2026-volume-jumps-54-as-staff-fired-one-day-before-token-vesting/ 14. https://cryptorank.io/news/feed/90071-pump-fun-unlocks-86-49-million-in-pump-tokens-as-three-year-vesting-begins
