Milady Meme Coin is a [[meme coin]] on Ethereum inspired by Milady Maker, the anime styled NFT collection that became one of crypto's most influential subcultures. Launched in early May 2023, it is best known for gaining thousands of percent in a single day after Elon Musk posted a Milady meme. ## Origin LADYS launched around May 7, 2023, in the tail of the [[Pepe]] driven meme coin frenzy, with a supply of 888 trillion tokens and no formal ties to the Milady Maker NFT project or its creator collective, a disclaimer the token itself carries. It monetized an aesthetic rather than a single character: the Milady network of NFT holders, shitposters, and net art accounts was already one of the loudest cultural blocs on Crypto Twitter, and the coin gave that energy a ticker. ## Market history On May 10, 2023 Musk tweeted a Milady image captioned "There is no meme, I love you," which traders read as an endorsement. LADYS surged more than 5,250 percent within 24 hours, with some trackers citing even larger moves, and its market capitalization blew past 150 million dollars while Milady Maker NFT floor prices jumped alongside. Crypto.com and other exchanges listed the token within days. After the frenzy faded, LADYS revived in the 2024 bull market and set its all time high on March 13, 2024, a market capitalization of roughly 380 million dollars per CoinGecko data. By August 2026 it had declined about 98 percent from that peak to a market capitalization near 5 million dollars. ## Cultural impact LADYS demonstrated that an NFT subculture could be securitized into a meme coin overnight, a pattern later repeated across chains as communities span tokens off their imagery. The Musk episode became a textbook case of a single celebrity post repricing an asset by orders of magnitude within minutes, the same reflex that powered [[Dogecoin]] and [[Floki]] in 2021 and countless celebrity adjacent launches in [[the trenches]] afterward. It remains the canonical example of the 2023 vintage tweet pump. ## References - https://cointelegraph.com/news/milady-memecoin-surges-5-250-after-musk-tweet-exchange-listings - https://www.cryptotimes.io/2023/05/12/crypto-com-lists-milady-meme-coin-after-musk-tweet/ - https://www.gate.com/learn/articles/what-is-milady/727 - https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/milady-meme-coin - https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2023/05/12/dogecoin-like-spike-in-milady-nfts-after-elon-musks-tweet-but-will-it-last
