## Role in the trenches

Binance, founded in 2017 by Changpeng Zhao (CZ), is the largest centralized cryptocurrency exchange and, from the perspective of [[the trenches]], the finish line. A Binance spot listing is the terminal event in a meme coin's life cycle: it delivers the deepest liquidity and the broadest retail distribution a token can reach, and it is where early holders finally meet enough [[exit liquidity]] to sell size. Listing announcements routinely spike prices, and the subsequent sell the news dump is so common that trading the Binance listing is its own discipline. Solana meme coins including [[bonk]] and [[dogwifhat]] marked their graduation from trench asset to blue chip via Binance listings.

## Binance Alpha

In December 2024 Binance launched Alpha, a pre listing token pool inside Binance Wallet that formalized the pipeline between onchain launches and the main exchange. Alpha 2.0, in March 2025, moved trading directly into the exchange app, letting users buy onchain tokens with exchange balances. An Alpha Points system, based on balances and Alpha purchase volume over a rolling window, gates airdrops and token generation events, which spawned an entire farming subculture. Research coverage of 2025 reported roughly 48 percent of Alpha launches reaching Binance Futures and about 17 percent reaching spot, so Alpha inclusion became a tracked signal in the trenches without ever guaranteeing a listing. In late 2025 Binance added Meme Rush, a Binance Wallet section for meme coin launches with early access to future Alpha listings, pushing the exchange directly into launchpad territory.

## CZ context

CZ pleaded guilty to a US anti money laundering charge in November 2023, stepped down as CEO, and served a four month sentence in 2024. On October 23, 2025 President Trump pardoned him, an event the meme coin market traded instantly: BNB rallied, and CZ adjacent meme coins on BNB Chain spiked, with one, known as Binance Life, reported up around 54,000 percent in the weeks around the pardon. CZ's public flirtation with meme coins, including remarking in late 2025 that he was just learning how people ape into them, is treated in the trenches as a standing catalyst for the BNB Chain meme casino.

## Status in 2026

Binance remains the dominant exchange in 2026, and Alpha, Meme Rush and the listing pipeline remain the standard route by which a trench coin becomes a listed asset.
